Concepts of cyber bullying

Cyber bulling

The term 'Bully' means a learned behavior and not an innate characteristic of anyone that clearly relates that cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through messages, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.

Different views of adults and young people
There is a general sense within the literature that adults and young people think differently about the online and offline world. For children and young people, the online and offline world are "seamless" in providing a holistic arena of communication, socialization, play, research and learning (JSCCS, 2011a; Willard, 2011). Consequently, children and young people don't necessarily see any difference between online and offline bullying - in one study young people described cyberbullying simply as "bullying via the Internet" or "bullying using technology.”
This is further supported by the idea that many young people who perpetrate cyberbullying also engage in offline bullying, and many young people who have experienced cyber bullying has also experienced offline bullying.
Location
There is often a transference and continuation of cyberbullying behavior from home to school or vice versa, with some the suggestion that more students experienced cyber bullying outside of school than in school hour.  Spears et al. (2008) described this as "cyclical" bullying, was not only the location but also the type of bullying (offline/online) may change over time. This nature of cyberbullying highlights the importance of parental involvement in preventing and addressing cyberbullying in partnership with schools and possibly other youth-focused

There are so many types of cyber bullying, amongst all I have noted it eight types of cyber bullying. The following are as follows;

Types of cyber bullying

 1. Flamming
Online fights using electronic messages with angry and vulgar language.

2. Harassment:
Repeatedly sending cruel, vicious and/or threatening message.

3.Denigration: Sending or posting gossip or rumors about a person to damage his or her reputation or friendships

4. Impersonation: Breaking into someone's email account and using it to send vicious or embarrassing material to others

 5. Outing
Public display or forwarding of personal communications such as text messages, emails or instant messaging. ... Even reading out the saved messages on a person's mobile phone is a form of outing. It can cause real psychological damage to the people involved if the message is private information.

6. Trickery: Engaging someone in instant messaging, tricking him or her into revealing sensitive information, and forwarding that information to others.

   7. Exclusion: Intentionally excluding someone from an online group.

8. Cyberstalking: Repeated, intense harassment and denigration that includes threats or create significant fear

My memoir on ICT class

After attending the class on ICT in teaching and learning, I became fluent with the ICT usage. Before I had only peripheral knowledge on computer usage as I only know typing, surfing internet, copy pasting, making simple power point presentation and watching videos. I was digital immigrant back then. However, with the change in time span, changes occur within me. There are many things that I learn have from this module.  Some of my learning are, I could make beautiful slides along with fantastic animations, interesting video tutorials, create videos,   make interesting lesson plans using ICT idea.

I could get into various situating tools that thoroughly engaged me in the activities. There is good transition from computer literate to computer educated. Over the time, I had good fight with new knowledge and computer skills.  Today as I look back I became warrior and I realized that weapon is still with me for future battlement. In a nutshell I wanted say that this module has been a fun learning with exploration. We are truly blessed to have such passionate tutor for this module.

Who took all the trouble to teach from the basic ideas to convince innocent computer user. I am one among that. I learnt a lot, I already neared to digital native. Module tutor guide me towards becoming competent 21st century teacher. For this I have immense gratitude for sir and with my heart I must say,   I am bless being under your custody. I will make proper use of your teaching and I will implement all strategy learnt in my future teaching and learning. THANK YOU SIR FOR  tEACHING  and guiding us through   strategy and technique that we could integrate in classroom.

Google classroom as constructive tool.

Google classroom is another constructive tool for teaching and learning. . I have learned that Google Classroom is a web-based platform that lets teachers create online classrooms where they can distribute, collect, and manage class work. It allows teachers to communicate and collaborate with students.  Google Classroom offers a digital safe space for students to view class announcements, access posted course content, and turn in completed work.

Teachers can use to this tool to teach students. We can substitute the real traditional classroom by google classroom. If we go by this choice, it will help in reducing paper usage. It will help to go paper less society.  In this case work load of both teachers and students will be reduced by not have to carry books. Students can summit their work in google classroom by joining in. Unlike traditional way of classroom; google classroom will help students to use time efficiently.

A student doesn’t need to wait for teachers to come and teach/ collect the books. They can join class as soon as they are at net accessible area.  A student doesn’t need to worry about losing books. It will let users take photos and attach to assignments, share files from other apps, and access information offline. Teachers can monitor the progress for each student, and after being graded, teachers can return work, with comments. Therefore, google classroom is effective way for classroom teaching and engagement.

In order to do away with traditional teaching, we were made to create a Google Classroom of our own by following the steps shown in a video. When creating a Google Classroom, I first opened a Web browser and went to classroom.google.com. I have signed in with my Google Apps for an educational account. On the Welcome screen, I clicked the plus sign at the top and chose Create Class. Then in the Create a Class dialogue box, I typed in the Class Name and Section. Finally, I clicked Create and within no time and to my surprise, I had finished creating a Google Classroom.

My reflection on benefits of Technology integration in Education

After attending this class I came to know about many benefits. Besides the class note, I even browsed the internet. It further strengthened my knowledge on it. I will briefly write my reflection on benefits of technology integration in education.Technology makes teaching easy. It is tiring job for a teacher to always give theoretical explanation. Instead of that, we can use audio-visual presentation (using computer and projector). It will help students understanding concepts much better.

Technology will help to track students’ progress. We are not limited to old way of maintaining diary and note about every student. We can use technology platform and tools to track students’ achievements. For example: Google docs. Technology makes learning fun for students. Now a days, students are addicted to Facebook,  Pinterest, Instagram, and other websites from the early age. We can make use of those platforms for educational purpose. We can create a group in Facebook for the constructive discussion. In such case, students will take part and learn as this platforms interest them than normal textbook and notebook task.

Technology makes distance learning accessible. If we use technology for the learning, teacher/students can sit back in the home and take part. It will also help them gain knowledge they are interested in. For example: if student is interested in making paper flower that is not reflected in the old curriculum, teacher can recommend him/her to browse the internet. It will help student feed his/her hunger for that knowledge
.
Students and teachers can access information at any time. In absence of technology we have to look for the book in library. To get the particular kind of book that we need, it will consume more time. Today technology integration makes everything different and simpler. Within no time we can get what we want precisely. If the student doesn’t understand the lecture that teacher gave, she or he can find for simpler instruction and information with a single Google search.  Technology also makes collaboration more effective. We can create collaboration work using online tools and apps. They can work from home, since the teams are connected through the internet. So, these are the lesson that I learnt on this topic. It is user friendly and we can use it in the class too.

Camtasia; My journey towards video creation

Camtasia is a software suite, created and published by Techsmith, for creating video tutorials and presentations directly through screen cast, or direct recording plug into micro soft power point. Its basic function is to record video of our computer’s screen or portion of a screen. From this lesson I have learned how to do screen recording using Camtasia. Screen recording mainly helps in tracing the steps or process if we are learning new concept.

For example, if the tutor teaches us how to create Google classroom, primarily the steps, it is always better if we can do screen recording along with the tutor in the classroom rather than writing notes in the book.  We can refer and use that recorded package for longer duration. It makes live easy for the people having less memory retention.

In Camtasia, we can insert any kind of video, music, pictures, and captions to make attractive presentation or movie. We can record our own voice, split, and join whenever it is necessary. It is flexible software through which we can take out unwanted stuff to look/hear much better. It has numerous features whereby we can create quiz along with the video. It is fun learning. Being as a future educationist I strongly felt that, we need to use this software in teaching and learning in the classroom.

Now with the shift of paradigm we can use Camtasia while teaching. Children will always learn better when they can see their learning visually attractive. We teach value through the video. Not only that we can also assess have students had learning through camtasia as it involved certain features like quiz and questionnaires. In such cases it also helps in creating constructive class because students have control over the lesson by taking part in the quiz.

If we impart the knowledge of Camtasia usage to students, they can record whatever they learnt in the software. It will help them in future reference without having to visit teachers’ frequently. It also helps in teaching students with various method such as showing video, power point presentation, video tutoring and so on. It is important to integrate technology into teaching and learning to enhance students’ learning.
This is the video I have edited using Camtisia

Digital native verses Digital immigrant

Digital native verses Digital immigrant

Today world has change incrementally from the past. With the scenario change, inhabitants too change from that of the previous generations. A really big discontinuity has taken place.Today’s generation grown up with  new technology.  Their entire life has been change and surrounded by using computer, video games, digital music player, cell phones and all other tool of digital age. It is amazing to see today’s college students spent most of the time with the electronic gadgets. Computer games, email, the internet, cell phones and instant messages are integral part of their lives.

Today’s generation think and process information fundamentally different from their predecessors. And with certainty we must say that their thinking has changed. What should we call these “new generation of today? There are many possible references for them but the more useful designation is for them is digital natives. So what does that make the rest of us? Those of us who were not born into digital world but at least touched the few aspect of technology at some later point in our live are called digital immigrant. Today’s older folk were socializing different from their kids and are now in the process of learning new language.

To get the crystal clear of digital immigrant accent, some of the characteristics are stated below. It include needing to print out an email and document written on the computer in order to read and edit it (rather than just reading and editing on the screen) bringing people physically into our cubicle to see an interesting website (rather than sending them the URL)

On the other hand digital natives are used to receiving information fast. They like parallel process and multi –tasking. They prefer graphic than text. They function best when networked. They are used to downloaded music, phones in their pocket and library in the laptop.  But to huge extend, digital immigrant do not believe that younger generation can learn successfully while watching television or listening to music because they can’t. This is because they did not practice those skills constantly for all of their life. For them system is alien. Argument for this topic ends here with the questions. So, what should happen? Should digital native learn the old ways or should the digital immigrant learn the new?

levels of ICT integration

1.      Low level of technology integration
2.      The middle level of technology integration
3.      High level of technology integration
In low-level technology integration, it doesn’t involve the use of complicated ICT knowledge. Here, they just use simple and basic ICT knowledge in teaching and learning. From the some examples that we have discussed in the class, I came to know that low level of technology integration includes downloading pictures, preparing a presentation, letting students submit their worksheet via email, recording marks and uploading files.

In the middle level of technology integration, technology plays a vital role, providing both students and teacher with important materials for activities. The technology is well integrated into the lesson. Examples that we have discussed in the class were the use of role-play simulation, preparing a worksheet and use of different software comes under the middle level.

In the high level of technology integration, technology is used by students to help them through a variety of important learning processes. Here the students were given the opportunity to be creative by letting them make links about content areas, use learning tools and develop thinking skills, challenging them with complex and authentic tasks and enhance students learning.

As discussed in the class, we fall under the low-level technology integration. This is because, in the college, there is a virtual learning environment where tutors avail to upload files, presentation, and necessary classroom notes. We use email to upload our assignment. Most of the time, we have seen tutor bringing handout which is downloaded from the internet. All those characters matched with low-level technology integration and we fall under this.

Microsoft Publisher

When we were in the third year, we were asked to prepare a brochure on health and Physical education. I have seen and read many brochures prepared by others. But I haven’t thought about how it was created. The designs looked simple with all the effective information in details. It was an assignment and to be graded. By hook and crook, I had to meet the dateline.

Then I asked one of my friends about how to prepare a brochure. She gave me a little hint on making brochure in Microsoft Publisher. Even she did not have adequate knowledge of it. Then I browsed the internet and looked for steps involving in preparing brochure. From that, I started to explore how to go with the brochure.

It was just a piece of cake after knowing how to go about it. We can use Microsoft publisher to publish anything. In MS publisher, we get so many options like newsletters, calendar, business letter, brochure, postcards and many more. When we select any of the options, we get different ready-made templates. We can even create our own design and templates using the option given there.

Here, the text box is the working place. The text box should be fit within the text border. We can insert pages by clicking on the option ‘insert page’. It is a very good way of publishing something. We can use our creativity and make it unique. Once we insert the text box, we can layer them and we can design. It was fun learning this and I realized that I can use it at any time.  As a teacher, we can always incorporate it with classroom teaching and learning.
Finally I created one beautiful brochure.
